San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork. Mens Lime Turquoise Nike Roshe Run HYP QS Shoes UK .com) - The San Diego Padres continued what has been a whirlwind week with Fridays acquisition of two-time All-Star outfielder Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves. Upton, a National League Silver Slugger Award recipient in 2014, heads to the new-look Padres along with minor league pitcher Aaron Northcraft, with the Braves receiving a package of four prospects for the impending free agent. San Diego sent pitcher Max Fried, the teams first-round pick in the 2012 draft, to Atlanta along with infielders Dustin Peterson and Jace Peterson and outfielder Mallex Smith. Upton, who drove in a career-best 102 runs while belting 29 homers and hitting .270 last season, joins fellow new acquisitions Matt Kemp and Wil Myers in San Diegos overhauled outfield. Kemp was officially obtained from the NL West rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday, with the 2013 AL Rookie of the Year Myers coming over from Tampa Bay as part of a three-team, 11-player swap that was finalized earlier Friday. Padres first-year general manager A.J. Preller pulled off another trade for a hitter on Thursday, landing catcher Derek Norris from Oakland for young pitchers Jesse Hahn and R.J. Alvarez. The first overall pick in the 2005 draft, Upton spent his first six major league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks before being dealt to Atlanta -- where he played alongside his brother, B.J. --- prior to the start of the 2013 campaign. Upton has averaged 25 homers and 80 RBI since 2009 and owns a .274 career average, while his 10 long balls at Petco Park are tied for the most by a visiting player in the stadiums history. Those numbers should bring a boost to a Padres offense that was the worst in the majors last season, placing last in runs scored (535), batting average (.226) and on-base percentage (.292). Fried, the seventh overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft, figures to be the centerpiece of the deal from the Braves standpoint. The 20-year-old lefty entered last season rated as the No. 53 overall prospect by Baseball America, though he pitched just 10 2/3 innings before undergoing Tommy John surgery in August. Jace Peterson hit .307 with 24 doubles over 86 games between Double and Triple A last season, but went just 6-for-53 at the plate with the Padres in his first taste of the majors. Dustin Peterson, a second-round selection of San Diego in 2013, spent last season at Low Class A Fort Wayne and hit .233 with 10 homers, 79 RBI and 31 doubles in 126 games. Smith is best known for his speed, having led the minors with 88 stolen bases while splitting last season between Fort Wayne and High-A Lake Elsinore. The 21-year-old combined to hit .310 with five homers and 31 RBI over 120 games. Northcraft posted a 7-3 record with a 2.88 ERA in 13 games (12 starts) with Double-A Mississippi, but struggled in a climb up the ladder. In 13 appearances (12 starts) with Triple-A Gwinnett, the right-hander went 0-7 with a 6.54 ERA. Nike Free 5.0 Orange/White Womens V4 Running Shoes UK . Catch the game live on TSN2 at 9pm et/6pm pt. PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Penguins have insisted during their extensive front office overhaul that the on-ice product doesnt need to change much for the franchise to return to the NHLs elite. Small tweaks, not big ones, are required. Mike Johnstons job is to figure out which ones to make and -- perhaps even more importantly -- how to make them work. The Penguins hired the well-travelled Johnston to replace Dan Bylsma on Wednesday, charging the hockey lifer with creating the right system for stars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to thrive in both the regular season and beyond. Considering the talent at his disposal, the 57-year-old Johnston likes his chances. After spending the last six years with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League preaching an uptempo attack, Johnston welcomes the opportunity to work with one of the most explosive offences in the NHL. "The core group is exactly where I want it," Johnston said. Good, because theyre not going anywhere. Instead, its everything around Malkin and Crosby -- who earned his second Hart Trophy as the NHLs Most Valuable Player on Tuesday -- that is changing. Johnstons hiring ends a tumultuous six weeks in which the Penguins were bounced from the Eastern Conference semifinals by the New York Rangers after blowing a 3-1 lead, fired Bylsma and general manager Ray Shero, and brought in longtime Carolina Hurricanes executive Jim Rutherford to clean up the mess. Rutherford settled on Johnston after a lengthy interview process that included an ill-fated run at Willie Desjardins, who opted to take the vacant job in Vancouver. Regardless of the path taken, Rutherford is confident he ended up at the right destination. "I feel very strongly that weve got the right coach," Rutherford said. One whose success will depend on his ability to take Pittsburgh on extended playoff runs. Bylsma won more games than any coach in club history but was fired on June 6 after going just 4-5 in post-season series since leading the Penguins to the 2009 Stanley Cup title. Johnston understands the onus to win on a given night, but stressed the focus will be on preparing Pittsburgh for the challenges of hockey in May and June, not October or November. "The bottom-line expectation for me is that, from training campp through the first part of the season, everything we do is setting the table for the playoffs," Johnston said. Red White Roshe Run Womens Nike Shoes UK. "The score is relevant but its not as relevant as the habits that we are going to have to make us successful in the playoffs." Pittsburgh is Johnstons first NHL head coaching job, though he spent two previous stints as an assistant with Vancouver and the Los Angeles Kings. He said he has a bit to learn about the challenges of an 82-game NHL season, which is one of the reasons the Penguins also brought in Rick Tocchet to serve as Johnstons top assistant. Tocchet played 18 years in the NHL, including two seasons in Pittsburgh, where the four-time All-Star helped the Penguins win their second Stanley Cup championship in 1992. The 50-year-old Tocchet also spent more than a season as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning from 2008-10. While Tocchet said that his old team has underachieved in recent springs, he doesnt see that as a stumbling block. "There are teams that wish they had (Pittsburghs) problems," Tocchet said. "The way Mike is going to coach this team, the way these guys play is high tempo. Its something guys are going to enjoy." Tocchet replaces Todd Reirden and Tony Granato, holdovers from Bylsmas staff who were let go on Wednesday. The Penguins retained goaltending coach Mike Bales and video co-ordinator Andy Saucier. Assistant coach Jacques Martin will also remain with the team in an undetermined capacity. Johnston is hardly a novice when it comes to dealing with pressure or highly skilled players. He was a part of Canadas coaching staff at the 1998 Winter Olympics, the first Games in which NHL players were allowed to compete. It led to nearly a decade as an assistant with Vancouver (1999-2006) and the Kings (2006-08) before he landed in Portland, where he spent six years helping young players navigate the choppy waters of professional life. The seas will be only more tumultuous in one of the NHLs most high-profile jobs. Johnston is OK with the pressure. With the 26-year-old Crosby and the 27-year-old Malkin in the midst of their primes, there are worst places to start. "This group wants to win," he said. "Theyve won the Stanley Cup, and I believe they want to do it again."
