GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- Catriona Matthew shot her second straight 4-under 68 on Saturday to take a three-stroke lead after the third round of the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Gerard Pique Jersey . Matthew, the 42-year-old Scot who won the 2009 Womens British Open for the last of her three LPGA Tour titles, had an 11-under 205 total at Guadalajara Country Club. "I think Im putting the ball better this year, being more consistent," Matthew said. "I havent made the mistakes that I have made in the last couple of years. More bad shots the last years. This year in general Ive been more consistent and pitching the ball better, so makes it easier when youre on the fairway." She played the first 52 holes without a bogey before dropping a stroke on No. 17. "Ive hit a lot of fairways and a lot of greens and it makes it quite easy," Matthew said. "I havent missed a lot of greens, and dont have the pressure to get up and down then, so hopefully I can keep it up for another day." Norways Suzann Pettersen (71) was second, and defending champion I.K. Kim (70) was another stroke back along with Anna Nordqvist (73). "Im delighted to be in the lead," Matthew said. "I would rather be three shots in the lead rather than three behind. I.K., Suzann and Anna all back there, all capable of coming up from behind, so Im going to have to go out there tomorrow and shoot something in the 60s, I think." Last year, Kim closed with a 64 to beat Pettersen by three strokes. "Is this a course where you can shoot a low round and come from behind, I.K.?" Pettersen joked with Kim, who also was in the interview room. "Yeah, it is. It is. I witnessed it last year so, no, I mean, obviously if you get going, try to take advantage of so many par 5s. There are tough holes coming up, and with the greens firm, you never know what its going to be, but you have to put a good number together tomorrow." Hall of Famer Juli Inkster, tied for the lead after the first two rounds in the 36-player event, was 5 under after a 75. The 51-year-old Inkster is trying to become the oldest winner in LPGA Tour history. Michelle Wie, the 2009 winner, was tied for 12th at 1 under after a 71. Top-ranked Yani Tseng was 26th at 3 over after a 74. Tseng is coming off victories in the LPGA Tours Taiwan Championship and Ladies European Tours Suzhou Taihu Ladies in China. The Taiwanese star has seven LPGA Tour wins this season, including major victories in the LPGA Championship and Womens British Open, and four other worldwide wins. She tied for 18th in 2008 in the inaugural event in Guadalajara, tied for eighth in 2009 and was 27th last year. The tee on the par-5 18th hole were moved up 40 yards Saturday, cutting the hole from 521 yards to 481. "I think its good they moved it up," Pettersen said. "I dont think youve seen a lot of birdies there today. I dont think youve seen a lot of eagles, so I dont think it really makes an overall difference on how the hole is played, but it gives us a chance. Even if you hit a great drive you had to hit a perfect shot to get it on, and the bunkers on the left are more in play. So its nice to have a finishing hole where good shots can make a difference." . The result means Atletico Madrid now tops the table, with Madrid level on points in second and Barcelona a point behind in third with nine games remaining as the title race shapes up to be the closest in years. David de Gea Spain Jersey . -- Decked out in Angels gear from head to toe, Albert Pujols looked like the same slugger whose swing in St.SAN FRANCISCO -- Fred Couples extended his lead to five strokes Saturday after the third round of the Champions Tours season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Winless this season, Couples shot a 3-under 68 to reach 15-under 198 at TPC Harding Park. "I enjoy having a lead," Couples said. "Sometimes when you go and play with a lead, you try to expand it. If youre behind, every shot is important. I dont do well with that. Im just going to go out and play. For the most part its about stepping up and just hitting it." Mark OMeara was second after a 67. "Hell be hard to beat, no question, with his power and length," OMeara said about Couples. "I have no problems with Freddy at all, hes been great for the game." Fred Couples and Mark OMeara have known each other since both qualified for the PGA Tour in 1980. "The best things are the pairings," Couples said. "I get Mark OMeara and it couldnt get any better for me." Defending champion Tom Lehman had the best round of the day, a 65, to join Bart Bryant and Peter Senior at 9 under. Bryant shot 70, and Senior had a 72. Charles Schwab Cup points leader Kenny Perry was tied for seventh at 7 under after a 67. Bernhard Langer, needing a victory and help to catch Perry, also was 7 under after a 71. Couples opened the round with a bogey. He easily shook that off and worked his way under par for the day. "Its almost laughable," he said. "I could play that hole 100 times and always make par. Making a goood drive on the first hit and not making par is ridiculous. " Couples missed a 3-foot putt for par. "Im not going to get down on myself over my putts," Couples said. "I missed a lot of putts. The worst I could have shot today was what I shot. The first two rounds were my best of the year. Today was not as easy." OMeara played consistently well through the day, with his only hiccup a bogey on 17. He finished with a birdie on 18. "I drove the ball pretty well," OMeara said. "I had some good opportunities early in the round when I hit good putts that just missed the hole." OMeara recalled that Couples slept in his car during the first stage of the qualifying tournament in 19800, but was invited to stay with OMeara the final two or three days of Q-school. "Weve both had fairly parallel careers," OMeara said. "We both made it through Q-school and the rest is history." Couples and OMeara wound up playing together on the final day of Q-school in Fresno. "I was the last guy to make it make it," Couples said. "I think he was one shot better than me, but we both qualified and neither of us ever had to do that again." Couples said he was confident if one of his shots detoured into the rough. "I like this kind of rough," he said. "If you put me in the soft, fluffy stuff, I dont do very well. Here I can almost hit like little bunker shots. I just feel like I can get my club through this grass."
