Ames, IA (SportsNetwork. Manny Machado White Jersey .com) - A marquee Big 12 Conference showdown is on tap for Monday night at Hilton Coliseum, as the Iowa State Cyclones play host to Canadas Andrew Wiggins and the Kansas Jayhawks. Kansas suffered a 61-57 home loss to San Diego State on Jan. 5 in its final non-conference bout, but since then it has opened up Big 12 play with back-to- back wins at Oklahoma (90-83) and most recently at home versus nationally- ranked Kansas State on Saturday (86-60). The Jayhawks are now 11-4 overall but have won just one true road game in three tries. Iowa State opened up the season with 14 straight wins, its best start in school history as well as its longest-ever winning streak, but its perfect campaign came to an end on Saturday afternoon at Oklahoma with an 87-82 setback to dip to 2-1 in league play. The Cyclones are still perfect at Hilton Coliseum (8-0) and have won 31 of their last 32 games in Ames dating back to the 2011-12 campaign. The Jayhawks have a firm handle on the Cyclones in the all-time series, 174-59, which includes wins in all three outings last season. Hosting their nationally-ranked intrastate rival over the weekend, Kansas made easy work of K-State, outshooting it from the field, 56.1 percent to 44 percent, en route to the 26-point victory. Andrew Wiggins paced all scorers with 22 points, doing so on 7-of-13 from the field (including 3-of-4 from 3- point range) and 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Wayne Selden Jr. was hot on his heels with 20 points, Perry Ellis netted 12, Joel Embiid tallied 11 points and nine boards and Naadir Tharpe rounded out the balanced attack by handing out nine assists. The Jayhawks offense has been potent all season long, as they shoot greater than 50 percent from the field for 79.1 ppg, which is 10.4 ppg more than they allow on the other end of the floor. Wiggins may not be living up to the incredible preseason hype as one of the best incoming freshman in recent memory, but hes still in the midst of a stellar campaign with 15.7 ppg and 5.4 rpg. Fellow first-year player Embiid has manned the paint on both ends of the floor with 10.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, and 2.4 bpg, all while shooting nearly 66 percent from the field. Ellis (13.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg), Selden (10.3 ppg) and Tharpe (8.0 ppg, 5.4 apg) round out one of the nations best starting lineups. After playing the first half of its most recent contest to a 39-39 tie, Iowa State fell behind Oklahoma by as many as 13 in the second stanza and could not climb back in the game. It shot an impressive 52.3 percent from the field in the win, but only 6-of-26 came from beyond the arc and it was outscored at the foul line, 18-8. DeAndre Kane was outstanding as usual with 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists, but left the game early with an ankle injury and is out indefinitely. Melvin Ejim poured in 21 points, while Georges Niang and Dustin Hogue scored 14 and 13, respectively. The Cyclones have one of the countrys most potent offensive attacks, ranking 11th in field-goal percentage (.495), 12th in 3-pointers per game (8.9) and sixth in scoring (86.7 ppg), but their production is bound to take a dip if Kane (16.5 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 6.1 apg) has to miss significant time. Luckily the squad still has plenty of impressive scorers to rely on, led by Ejim (18.0 ppg, 7.1 rpg), who shoots 52.1 percent from the field and 76.3 percent from the foul line. Niang (15.3 ppg) and Dustin Hogue (12.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg) bring regular contributions to the table, while Naz Long (8.4 ppg) will likely see increased minutes in the backcourt without Kane. The Texas Rangers said Darvish was examined by team physician Dr. Keith Meister before Tuesday nights game against Houston, and that "everything appears to be OK." Darvish is expected to make his scheduled start Wednesday night in the series finale against the Astros.ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan coach John Beilein is willing to give Nik Stauskas a little leeway when it comes to shot selection. "Hes looking for a perfect play all the time, and shooters got to shoot it," Beilein said. "Sometimes whats a bad shot for others is a really good shot for him." Stauskas scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half Sunday, repeatedly making contested shots from the perimeter to help the 20th-ranked Wolverines to a 79-70 win over 13th-ranked Michigan State. Michigan rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit and wrested first place in the Big Ten from its in-state rival. "I just came out with the mindset in the second half that I wasnt going to be stopped," Stauskas said. "Once I made a couple shots, it kept going from there." Caris LeVert added 23 points for the Wolverines (19-7, 11-3), who won both regular-season meetings against Michigan State and six of the last eight games in the series. The Spartans (22-6, 11-4) started well, but were only up 36-34 at halftime. Then Stauskas and LeVert led a second-half charge. The Wolverines trailed 52-51 before going on a 13-0 run that sent the Crisler Center crowd into delirium. Michigan scored 45 points in the second half Sunday -- after blitzing the Spartans for 50 after halftime in an 80-75 win in East Lansing last month. "The first game, I was very proud of our effort. This game, we looked tired," Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said. "Im not very proud of our effort." Gary Harris scored 21 points for the Spartans. The victory gives Michigan a chance to earn its second Big Ten title in three years after tying for the championship in 2012. The Wolverines have home games against Minnesota and Indiana, as well as trips to Purdue and Illinois. Michigan State has home games against Illinois and Iowa followed by a trip to Ohio State. Stauskas was terrific in Michigans win at Michigan State last month, but he had not scored more than 16 points in a game since then. Perhaps he was letting opposing teams take him out of the offence too easily, but at 6-foot-6, if Stauskas makes up his mind that hhes going to shoot, he usually can. Jimmy Paredes Jersey. . With the Wolverines down 48-43, Stauskas scored seven straight points to give Michigan the lead. When the Spartans edged back ahead by one, Stauskas answered with a 3-pointer, and it soon become clear that there wasnt much Michigan State could do to keep him from shooting over defenders on the perimeter. A 3-pointer by Stauskas from the right wing put Michigan ahead 59-52, then LeVert added a 3-pointer and a dunk. With the Spartans wearing down, Jon Horford dunked for Michigan to make it 68-56 -- and that ended a stretch of 23 straight Michigan points by Stauskas or LeVert. Michigan fans serenaded the Spartans with a chant of "little brother" toward the end. The Spartans have battled injuries throughout this season -- Adreian Payne and Brandon Dawson missed the first meeting with Michigan. Dawson was still out Sunday with his broken hand, but Payne is back, and he had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Keith Appling, who has been dealing with a wrist problem, scored only six points for Michigan State. "Yeah, I fell on the wrist again, but I couldnt come out of the game," Appling said. "Its very frustrating right now, because there are things I just cant do, but I cant let that be an excuse. Im the quarterback of this team, like coach always says, and I have to be out there leading." Michigan, of course, has been playing without big man Mitch McGary for over two months, but the Wolverines have overcome his back-related absence thus far. Glenn Robinson III scored 15 points Sunday, including an alley-oop dunk from a driving Stauskas that made it 72-61. Michigan State made 17 shots from 3-point range in its previous game against Purdue, and the Spartans were locked in early in this one. Payne dunked on freshman Zak Irvin while drawing a foul, and the three-point play gave Michigan State a 22-11 lead. The Wolverines responded with a 10-0 run that included 3-pointers by Spike Albrecht and LeVert and a breakaway dunk by Irvin. LeVert scored 14 points in the first half, and his 3-pointer in the final seconds cut Michigan States lead to two.
